Transportation Trails, Inc. In 2003 the City of Traverse City, Grand Traverse County, and Garfield Township officials with assistance from Traverse Area Recreation & Transportation Trails, had an idea to create a trail along the east side of Boardman Lake. After more than a year of planning, design, and construction the Boardman Lake Trail became a reality in 2005. Consisting of 20,000 lineal feet of 2x12 joists, 50,000 lineal feet of 2x6 decking, and 40,000 deck screws, the trail spans 2 miles long, 10 ft. wide, and extends from Hull Park behind the Traverse City Library to Medalie Park in Logans Landing.
